Transhumanism - Science Fiction or Just Today's Science?

The following article by Michael Berger at NanoWERK discusses the ethical, legal, and societal implications (ELSI) of nanotechnology. It falls into place with the discovery of nanoworms, see the article on the WALL. Please read the article and take note of the points raised by Dr. Gregor Wolbring. What the article doesn't mention is that Gregor is in a wheelchair with significant disabilities, including no legs and very minimal use of only one hand. How does knowing about Gregor's condition change your thoughts as you read the article? Does he make solid points? How should scientists deal with these challenges?

Methods to help WIN members on Facebook!

We are attempting to preserve everyone's personal privacy on Facebook and have a user friendly closed network for WIN members only to connect to jobs, internships, nano news, etc. Our current method is to have the common friend "Bucky Ball." Bucky is able to invite members and keep the group closed to global Facebook users. We welcome any ideas or discussion from current members that might be able to help us make this process easier or better! Please share any thoughts for a better design!

If you want to join WIN's Facebook group, find "Bucky Ball" as one of Carly Wobig's friends on Facebook. Invite Bucky to be your friend. Bucky will accept your request and send you an invitation to the WIN group.

Researchers Target Tumors With Tiny 'Nanoworms'

ScienceDaily (2008-05-07) Scientists have development nanometer-sized "nanoworms" that can cruise through the bloodstream without significant interference from the body's immune defense system and--like tiny anti cancer
missiles - home in on tumors.

WIN on Facebook!

WIN has created a Facebook group to help us form a solid network of students, teachers, and researchers working &/or interested in nanotechnology. Please send Carly Wobig an email at wobigcs@hotmail.com or find her on Facebook so that she can add you as a member. Also, feel free to spread the links to your contacts that may be interested in 'all things nano' to help us build our network. You can also find us at www.womeninnanotechnology.org.
